Canada “Sunny Cup” Seniors’ Series Table Tennis Friendship Tournament (Season 2)

This is an event with the purpose of revitalizing and energizing the healthy, active lifestyle of seniors. Canada “Sunny Cup” Seniors’ Series Table Tennis tournament will take place in August of 2022. This event is sponsored by the federal government’s “New Horizons for Seniors” program. Important information is as follows:

Event Hosting

The event will be hosted by the Sunny International Table Tennis Association, in partnership with the Sunny Seniors Club.

Eligibility

All seniors living in Canada aged 55 years and older who are interested in table tennis are eligible to participate. All participation must be voluntary, and supported by friends and family. The voluntary participation waiver must be signed and submitted with the sign up form.

Event Details

1. Singles and Doubles matches will be held separately.
2. The participants will be divided into two age groups: 55 – 64 years of age, and 65 and above.
3. There will be 16 singles participants and 8 doubles groups.

Event Rules

1. The first round of matches will be in a rotational form with randomly selected groups. The following rounds will be elimination matches.
2. All matches will be won by the best of 3, with the first group to reach 11 points per round.
3. Butterfly 40+ international competition standard table tennis balls will be used in this event.
4. This competition will follow the rules outlined in the Table Tennis Rules outlined by Table Tennis Canada.

Singles: August 22, 2022; August 29, 2022; (Mondays, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM)

Doubles: August 24, 2022; August 31; 2022 (Fridays, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM)

Event Sign-up

Seniors older than 65 participate for free while seniors younger than 65 must pay a sign-up fee of $10.00. During the competition, participants can use tickets provided to enter the facility free of charge. Sign-up starts immediately, and ends on August 19, 2022. If the sign-up window is missed, then participants will be placed in the following event.

Participation Waiver

Event Awards

The top 4 groups will receive awards. First place receives a trophy and medals, second place receives medals. Groups placing fifth through eighth will receive a Canada Sunny International Table Tennis Association Gift Card (valued at $10)

Judges

Judges and referees will be provided by the Canada Sunny International Table Tennis Association.
