Senior’s Series Table Tennis Tournament Award Ceremony

On July 20, 2022, the Canada “Sunny Cup” Seniors’ Series Table Tennis Friendship Tournament came to an end with an award ceremony. This federally funded event is part of the “New Horizons for Seniors” project, which aims to promote a healthy active lifestyle among senior citizens by providing platforms on which to enjoy such activities. This tournament involving over 100 participating seniors gave rise to over 30 award winners.

MPP Raymond Cho and Minister of Seniors and Accessibility presents awards to Aaron Yu, champion of the 55-64 age group singles and the champion duo of the 65-79 age group, Huanlun Yu and Daguo Chen.

Raymond Cho, MPP of Scarborough North and Minister of Seniors and Accessibility, arrived in-person to give a congratulatory speech and certificate to the Canada Sunny International Table Tennis Association for hosting this event. Shaun Chen, MP of Scarborough North, sent his secretary Judy Yeung in his place to give congratulations and present awards.

“Today’s event is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our seniors in friendly sport while promoting an active and healthy lifestyle”, says MP Shaun Chen. “Gatherings such as this one highlight the importance of creating spaces and platforms for seniors to enjoy themselves while promoting their wellbeing.”

Experienced table tennis coach Baofeng Han, Canada Sunny International Table Tennis Association Chairman Weiqi Zhou, and Toronto Seniors Association Yiliang Shi also served as award presenters at this event.

The Sunny Cup series will also host seniors’ table tennis training sessions, online table tennis workshops, and one-on-one coaching sessions.
